    1. Ans. Let the present age of father be ‘x’ yrs
      Let the present age of son be ‘y’ yrs
      x + y = 50
      After 4 yrs,
      Father’s age = x + 4
      Son’s age = y + 4
      According to condition,
      y + 4 = (1/3)[x + 4]
      x = (79/2)yrs or 39.5 yrs
      y = (21/2)yrs or 10.5 yrs

  2. Let fathers present age be x
    Let sons present age be y

    x+y=50

    After 4 years
    1/3(x+4)=y+4
    x+4=3y+12
    x-3y=8

    By Elimination method
    x= 79

    x+y=50
    79+y=50
    y=50-79
    y=-29

  3. Let the present age of the father be x
    '' '' '' '' '' '' son '' Y
    Then x+y=50 ----1

    4 years later, Father's age would be x+4 and son's age would be y+4
    Therefore 1/3 (x+4)=y+4
    => x+4= 3(y+4)
    => x+4= 3y+12
    => x-3y=8 -----2

    subtracting 1 and 2, we get:

    x + y = 50
    -(x -3y = 8)
    ___________
    4y=42
    y=42/4
    y=10.5
    or 10 Years and 6 months
    Therefore the father's age is
    50-10.5=39.5
    or 39 years 6 months

  5. Let the present ages of father and son be x and y, respectively.Then,
    x+y=50 ...(1)
    and y+4=1/3(x+4) ...(2)
    On solving th eqs., we have -
    Father's present age = x = 39.5 yrs
    Son's present age = y = 10.5 yrs
