Question for practice
The following questions are more helpful for class tenth students for all boards.
Questions 12. The sum of present ages of the father and the son is 50 years. 4 years later, the son’s age will be (1/3)rd that of the father. What are the present ages of the father and the son?
Submit your answer here or wait for answer
let father's present age be x and son's present age be y.
ReplyDeletex+y=50
1/3(x+4)=y+4
x+4=3y+12
x-3y=8
BY any of the methods we can get the answer.
Ans. Let the present age of father be ‘x’ yrs
DeleteLet the present age of son be ‘y’ yrs
x + y = 50
After 4 yrs,
Father’s age = x + 4
Son’s age = y + 4
According to condition,
y + 4 = (1/3)[x + 4]
x = (79/2)yrs or 39.5 yrs
y = (21/2)yrs or 10.5 yrs
Let fathers present age be x
ReplyDeleteLet sons present age be y
x+y=50
After 4 years
1/3(x+4)=y+4
x+4=3y+12
x-3y=8
By Elimination method
x= 79
x+y=50
79+y=50
y=50-79
y=-29
Ans. Let the present age of father be ‘x’ yrs
DeleteLet the present age of son be ‘y’ yrs
x + y = 50
After 4 yrs,
Father’s age = x + 4
Son’s age = y + 4
According to condition,
y + 4 = (1/3)[x + 4]
x = (79/2)yrs or 39.5 yrs
y = (21/2)yrs or 10.5 yrs
Let the present age of the father be x
ReplyDelete'' '' '' '' '' '' son '' Y
Then x+y=50 ----1
4 years later, Father's age would be x+4 and son's age would be y+4
Therefore 1/3 (x+4)=y+4
=> x+4= 3(y+4)
=> x+4= 3y+12
=> x-3y=8 -----2
subtracting 1 and 2, we get:
x + y = 50
-(x -3y = 8)
___________
4y=42
y=42/4
y=10.5
or 10 Years and 6 months
Therefore the father's age is
50-10.5=39.5
or 39 years 6 months

Let the present ages of father and son be x and y, respectively.Then,
ReplyDeletex+y=50 ...(1)
and y+4=1/3(x+4) ...(2)
On solving th eqs., we have -
Father's present age = x = 39.5 yrs
Son's present age = y = 10.5 yrs
