  1. MEAN = SUM OF OBSERVATIONS/NO. OF OBSERVATIONS
    10 =(6+10+x+11+12+y)/6
    10 =(39 + x + y)/6
    60 =39 + x + y
    21 = x + y or x + y = 21 -------[1]
    x - y = -7 -----[2]
    By elimination
    x= 7
    y = 14

  2. MEAN=SUM OF OBSERVATIONS/NUMBER OF OBSERVATIONS
    THEREFORE
    (6+10+x+11+12+y)/6=10
    39+x+y=60
    x+y=21(1)
    x-y=-7(2)
    FROM (1) AND (2) WE GET
    2x=14
    x=7
    WE KNOW THAT x+y=21
    THEREFORE y=14
    WE GET
    x=7
    y=14
